The New England Patriots have been the best team in the 2000 decade. They have won back-to-back Supers Bowls and won three championships in five years. They have been to the playoffs seven times missing only the 2002 and 2008 seasons.
In the first game of the 2008 season, Quarterback Tom Brady was going back to pass and was hit on the knee by a Chief defensive end and suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery. Brady was lost for the season. Although they played good football, they didn’t make the playoffs.
In 2009, Brady returned as starting quarterback. The Pats started out slow but at the end of the season they had made the playoffs and won the Eastern Division Crown. The Pats had a bye in the first round of games and had the home field advantage against the Baltimore Ravens in the conference championship. The game didn’t turn out the way the Pats had hoped. They not only lost the game but they lost their wide receiver Wes Welker to a knee injury. Hopefully Welker can come back in 2010 and be as productive as he was prior to the injury.
Has the dynasty come to an end in 2009? The Pats have a great coaching staff led by Bill Belichnick. Tom Brady was once again a dominating quarterback. They still have Randy Moss and Brandon Tate at wide receivers. Moss can still break a game open with one long pass play. The defense, with cornerbacks like Shawn Springs and Terrence Wheatley, can stop most NFL wide receivers. The Pats are in good shape and will be looking for another Super Bowl ring again in 2010.
